THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING PAIRED READING (PR) METHOD IN TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION (A Quasi Experimental Research at the Seventh Grade Students of MTsN Nibong)

This thesis entitled “The Effectiveness of Using Paired Reading Method
In Teaching Reading Comprehension to the seventh grade students of MTsN
Nibong.” (A Quasi Experimental research). The researcher took this title because
she found that many seventh grade students of MTsN Nibong did not understand
about reading comprehension especially descriptive text. Based on the
researcher’s observation at MTsN Nibong most of students still got low score in
reading comprehension and also the students only read a text without knowing the
meaning of the text. The problem in this research “was there any significant effect
in achievement between the students who are taught reading comprehension by
using paired reading method from those who are taught reading comprehension by
using conventional method”. The purpose of this research was to know significant
effect in achievement between the students who are taught reading comprehension
by using paired reading method from those who are taught reading comprehension
by using conventional method. This research was Experimental Research with
used quasi- experimental design. The population of this research was 71 students
of the seventh grade students of MTsN Nibong the researcher took two classes as
the sample, they were 23 students from class VIIa as experimental group and 24
students from class VIIb a control group. The total sample was 47 students. The
data was collected through pre-test and post-test and then analyzed with used
statistical formula t-test. The result from analyzing the data showed that there
were a significant different between the experimental and control groups. The
score of experimental was higher than control group. The students score was
analyzed by using t-test formula. Based on the research result, it was obtained
that  >  ,
3,59 > 1,679. So,  score was higher than the critical value
of table, it means that the research hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, while null
hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. As a result the researcher concluded that using
paired reading method in teaching reading comprehension at the seventh grade
students of MTsN Nibong was effective.
