THE STUDENTS’ STRATEGIES IN LEARNING READING COMPREHENSION AT THE TENTH GRADE (A Case Study Research at Islamic Boarding School Al-Muslimun Lhoksukon)
XMLThe title of this is “the students’ strategies in learning reading comprehension at
the tenth grade (a case study research at islamic boarding school al-muslimun
lhoksukon)”. This thesis is about to observe what strategies the students ususally
used in learning reading comprehension. Because in comprehending a reading text
we need strategies. And the researcher formulated this research as: what kinds of
strategies are used by the students in learning reading comprehension?. It purpose
to know whether students really used strategy in reading or not. The design of this
research was qualitative approach, a case study research. The researcher used
observation and interview in collecting data for this research. The observation was
used to see how the process of teaching reading in classroom while interview was
used to know what strategies students was used in learning reading. The
researcher did her research in al-muslimun boarding school lhoksukon. The
subjects of this research were six students at tenth grade who have different level
rank in class. There were two from high level, two from middle level and two
from low level. The researcher found the students used some strategies in learning
reading comprehension. The students had different capability, because of that,
they used the reading strategy based on their own ability. There are seven
strategies that researcher put on this research, but the students only used three
kinds of strategies: Activating or building background knowledge. It is used by
students who need to translate the text before they comprehend it. Using sensory
images, the students who used this strategy were fully aware that they cannot
comprehend a text without seeing the picture. And determining main ideas. This
last strategy was how to find main idea In order to comprehend a reading text.
