ABSTRACT
The title of this thesis is “An Analysis on Students Writing Problem in Using
Coordinating and Subordinating Conjunction (A Case Study at SMPN 13
Lhokseumawe)”.Based on the resercher’s observation, the students of SMPN 13
Lhokseumawehad many problems in learning writing such as lack of interest in
learning writing. The student could not write English well, the teacher did not pay
his or her attention to the difficulties faced by each students based on their
learning styles and the teacher did not apply various strategies, techniques, and
methods in learning writing.The problem of the research are kinds of coordinating
and subordinating conjunction are mostly difficult to be understanded for the
students that is found in writing and why did they face those difficulties in
mastering coordinating and subordinating conjunctions in writing. The purpose of
study are to find out the kinds of coordinating and subordinating conjunction are
mostly difficult to be understood for the students that is found in writingand to
investigate the reason they faced those difficulties in mastering coordinating and
subordinating conjunctions in writing.Methodology of the research, the design
applies in this research was descriptive qualitativeapproach and type of research
was case study.The result of the research, the researcher concluded that the
students of SMP Negeri 13 Lhokseumawe had problems in using coordinating and
subordinating conjunctions in writing. Thereweremany kindsofconjunction were
mostly difficult to understand for the students of SMP Negeri13
Lhokseumawethat was found in writing. Based on the result of documentation, it
showed that there were many students got problem in using “so” and “for” in
writing, but many students correctly using “and”, ”but” and ”or” correctly. It
means the teacher need some methods in learning in order to they have motivation
to study more. Based on interview with the students, the researcher knew that
many students made mistake of using subordinating and coordinating conjuction
because they did not know how to differences between main clause and
subordinating clause.
Kind of this problem are:Someofthestudentsstillconfusedinusingconjunction. Therewerealsosomestudentswhodidnotknowhowtouseit tocombinesentences. Thestudentshadless understandingaboutthe functionsofcoordinating and
subordinating conjunctions itself.Mostofthemstillgetdifficulty whenthe researcher
askedabouttheir answer.Besides that, some of the studentsstill
cannotunderstandaboutthecontextof sentencesotherewere some repetitionsofwords
in combiningthesentenceusingcoordinating and subordinating conjunctions.The
reason they faced those difficulties in mastering coordinating and subordinating
conjunctions in writing was the researcher knew that many students made mistake
of using subordinating and coordinating conjuction because they did not know
how to differences between main clause and subordinating clause.
