XMLABSTRACT
The title of this thesis is “The Effectiveness of Using Herringbone Technique in
Teaching Writing” (An Experimental Research at the Eight Grade Students of
MAN Beureughang)”. Writing is one of important aspects in learning English.
Based on the resercher’s observation, the students of MAN Beureughang had low
motivation in learning writing. The students’ writing ability was not developed well.
The students were not interest and looked bored in English class, some of them noisy and
did another activity, rather than paid attention and explanation to the teacher. Besides,
the students were also passively involved in teaching and learning process. The
problem of the research “Is there any significant effect in achievement between
the students who are taught writing by using Herringbone Technique and those
who are taught writing by using conventional method?”. The purpose of the
research is to know whether there is significant effect in achievement between the
students who are taught writing by using Herringbone Technique and those who
are taught writing by using conventional method. The result from analyzed the
data it was shown that there was a significant different between the experimental
and countrol group. The score of experimental was higher than control group. The
students score was analyzed by using t-test formula. Based on the research result,
it was obtained that ttest > ttable as 7,1543 > 1,6788. So, ttest score was higher than
the critical value of table, it means that the research hypothesis (Ha) was accepted,
while null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. As the result, the researcher concluded
that using Herringbone Technique in teaching writing at the eight grade at MAN
Beureughang was effective.
