THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING CHORAL READING TECHNIQUE TO STUDENT’S READING COMPREHENSION ABILITY (A Quasi Experimental Research at the EightGrade Students of MTsS Samudera Pase)
XMLThe title of this thesis is “The Effectiveness of Using Choral Reading Technique
to Student’s Reading Comprehension Ability (An Experimental Research at the
Eighth Grade Students ofMTsSSamuderaPase)”. Reading is one of important
aspects in learning English. Based on the resercher’s observation, the students of
MTsS Samudera Pase had low motivation in learning reading. Many of them got
difficulties in comprehending the text. The problem of the research “Is there any
significant differences in achievement between the students who are taught
reading comprehension by usingChoral Reading Techniquefrom those who are
taught by using conventional method?”.The purpose of the research is to know
whether thereis any significant differences in achievement between the students
who are taught reading comprehension by usingChoral Reading Techniquefrom
those who are taught by using conventional method.This research was
experimental research with Quasi experimental design.The population of this
research was all of the classes from the eight grade students of
MTsSSamuderaPase. In choosing the sample, the researcher used purposive
sampling. Purposive sampling is non probability technique that sample is chosen
accordingto certain characteristic. In this case Class VIIIB
as experimental group
andclass VIIIaas a control group. Sample from experimental group consist of 25
students and control group consist of 25 students. So the total number of the
sample was 50 students. The data was collected by given test, there are pre-test
and post-test and then analyzed with used statistical formula t-test the hypothesis. The researcher gave treatmentwas conducted four meetings. In the experimental
group, the researcher gave treatment by using Choral Reading Technique. While,
in control group the researcherused convensional method. The result from
analyzed the data it was shown that there were a significant different between the
experimental and countrol group. The score of experimental was higher than
control group. The students score was analyzed by using t-test formula. Based on
the research result, it was obtained that ttest>ttable as 4,5562 > 1,6788. So, ttest score
was higher than the critical value of table, it means that the research hypothesis
(Ha) was accepted, while null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. As the result, the
researcher concluded that using Choral Reading Technique to Student’s Reading
Comprehension Abilityat the Eight Grade Students at MTsSSamuderaPase was
effective.
