A STUDY ON FOREIGN LANGUANGE ANXIETY IN STUDENTS’ LEARNING SPEAKING (A Case Study at the Eleventh Grade Students’ of SMAIS Darul Muta’allimin)
XMLThe thesid entitled “A study on Foreign Language Anxiety in Students Speaking
Ability” (A Case Study at Eleventh Grade of SMAIS Darul Muta’allimin). The
research was conducted because the researcher found in the field that many
students were reluctance to speak English in foreign language class and it was
because some of factors inhibited student in learning speaking. Speaking is one of
the essential aspects in learning foreign language. The researcher aimed to analyze
more about the factors contributing foreign language anxiety in student learning
speaking. The purpose of this research was to find out the kinds of anxiety in
students speaking and to investigate the factors contributing of foreign language
in student learning speaking. The design applied in this research was qualitative
approach in type of case study. The subjects of this research were twelve students
of the eleventh grade students of SMAIS Darul Muta’allimin. The students chose
based on three different categories, they were three students of high, middle, and
low levels. To collect the data, researcher used three techniques of collecting data,
they were observation, questionnaire, and interview. The techniques of analyzing
data of this research were data reduction, data display, and conclusion which was
found in Miles and Huberman’s model. The result of this research showed there
were two types of anxiety found in students speaking. They were state anxiety and
situational anxiety. Meanwhile, there were many factors contributing of foreign
language anxiety, they were; communication apprehension, test anxiety, fear of
negative evaluation, lack of vocabulary, incorrect pronunciation, grammar, lack of
learning enthusiasm, and mother tongue use.
