This thesis entitled “ The Use of Schema Activation Strategy to increase Students’
Reading Comprehention Ability. (A Collaborative Classroom Action Research at the
Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 12 Lhokseumawe)”. The students had lack of
vocabulary in comprehending the reading text, the students got some difficulties in
reading comprehension of the text. Then, the students could not get the meaning of
the text. The teaching strategies used by teachers are not interested to students, The
teacher had ever used various methods but students’ ability still low, the fasilities of
that school have not completed yet. The problems of the research is how Scema
Activation Strategy improve the students’ ability in reading comprehension and how
is the class atmosphere when the teacher applying Scema Activation Strategy in
teaching reading comprehension. The Objective of research were to know whether
Scema Activation Strategy improve the students’ ability in reading comprehension
and to know the class atmosphere when the teacher applying Scema Activation
Strategy in teaching reading comprehension. The Objective of research was Seventh
Grade Students of SMPN 12 Lhokseumawe. In this research, the researcher used
observation and test as data collection technique. The technique of analizing data was
done by applying the procedure in which data reduction, data display and calculation.
This research belongs to qualitative approach by using collaborative classroom action
research. The study was conducted in two cycles. the observation guide for teacher in
first cycle and the observation guide for teacher in second cycle was increased. then,
the result observation guide for students in first cycle 52,5 or poor criteria and the
result of observation guide for students in second cycle was 72,5. the result post test
in first cycle is 76,25, this score shown that the criteria of success or good criteria. Based on the data above, the reasearcher concluded that schema activation strategy
increased students ability in reading comprehention.
