THE INFLUENCE OF USING COMMON MISTAKES GAME IN TEACHING GRAMMAR (A Quasi Experimental Research)
XMLThis thesis entitled ”The Influence of Using Common Mistakes Game in Teaching
Grammar (A Quasi Experimental Research at the Ninth Grade Students of SMPN
13 Lhokseumawe)”. Grammar is very important for all people who wants to learn
and knows English well. In learning the English language, it was understood that
grammar is difficult. Because many students have wrong manners in learning
English.The purpose of this research was to know whether there is significant
differences in achievement between the students who are taught by using common
mistakes game in teaching grammar and the students who are taught by using
conventional method. Two classes were taken as the sample by using random
sampling technique. As a result, class IX-A as experimental group (21 students)
and class IX-C as control group (21 students). The sample of this research are 42
students. Then, the researcher administered pre-test and post-test to both classes.
In experimental group the researcher taught by using common mistakes game, but
in control group the researcher taught by using conventional method. The research
found that the experimental group had a better result than control group. It showed
that the students achievement in control group was lower than experimental
group. This was proved by the result of 0,97. The score of on
significance 0.05 was 1,68. It means that was lower than . The obtained
that < , that is 0,97<1,68 and df=42. From the distribution t hypothesis
of this research Ha was rejected and Ho was accepted. Therefore, there is no any
significant differences in achievement between the students who are taught by
using common mistakes game in teaching grammar and the students who are
taught by using conventional method. So, using common mistakes game in
teaching grammar was not effective.
