AN ANALYSIS OF MORAL VALUES IN THE “TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD” NOVEL BY HARPER LEE (Library Research)
XMLThis thesis is entitled “An Analysis Of Moral Values in The “To Kill A
Mockingbird” Novel by Harper Lee (A Library Research)”. This research was
conducted because the researcher found only few people are able to apply the
ethics and moral, many of their has a bad moral. The presented of moral values in
this novel relate to the problem of human relationships with man and human
relationships with his God. So, the researcher very interest to analyze this novel.
The objective of this research are (1) to identify and analyze the moral values
found in Atticus’s character from “To Kill a Mockingbird” novel by Harper Lee
and (2) to know the most dominant characteristics of moral values found in
Atticus’s character from “To Kill a Mockingbird” novel by Harper Lee. The
design applied in this research was descriptive qualitative research, in type of
library research. The source of the data are primary and secondary data. The
technique of analyzing data are, data condensation, data display and data
verification. As the result, the researcher found that only one moral values can be
taken from Atticus’s character, there is good moral (positive) which has right
value. Indeed, these moral value is delivered through some moral value’s
characteristics. The characteristics of moral value delivered from (1) individual
orientation; (2) social trust; (3) easing social cooperation; and (4) peaceful conflict
resolution. The most dominant characteristics of moral values found in the “To
Kill a Mockingbird” novel is peaceful conflict resolution has nine data.
