This thesis entitled ”The Effectiveness of Nonverbal Game in Teaching
Vocabulary at The First Year Students of SMP N 1 Syaamtalira Bayu (A
Quasi Experimental Research)”. The researcher conducted the research because
the students at the first year of SMP N 1 Syamtalira Bayu were difficult to
understand and did not know the meaning of words, they could not answer the
questions of teacher, and also felt bored in learning process. Therefore, the
researcher thought that Nonverbal Game was one of the effective method to use in
teaching vocabulary, because Nonverbal Game helped children to maximize their
potential for learning and helped students to memorize, so it would make students
enjoy, fun and happy during learning process. The purpose of this research was to
find out whether Nonverbal Game effective or not in teaching vocabulary. In this
research, the researcher took two classes as sample; those were VII-2 as
experimental group that consisted of 22 students and VII-1 as control group that
consisted 22 students. The sample was taken by simple random sampling
technique lottery. In experimental group, the researcher used Nonverbal Game in
teaching vocabulary while in control group the researcher did not used Nonverbal
Game in teaching vocabulary. The data was collected through pre-test, post-test
and analyzed by using statistical formula t-test. As the result, the researcher
concluded that Nonverbal Game was effective in teaching vocabulary. It was
proved by mean score got by students in experimental group was 77,04 and the
mean score of students in control group was 68,86. Beside, the obtained t-score
5,0899 was higher than the critical value of table 1,68195 for degree of freedom
0,05. It means that the research hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null
hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. The researcher concluded that using Nonverbal
Game was effective in teaching vocabulary.
