The title of this thesis is “The Effect Of Using Two Stay Two Stray Method
In Teaching Reading Comprehension.” (A Quasi Experimental Research at
Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 13 Lhokseumawe). Reading comprehension
skill is important to get a lot of information about things and idea. The fact in
the field showed that most of students could not master reading comprehension
well because the students had low vocabulary and felf shy and nervous when
they read the text and the students had low motivation and they are also shy to
ask the teacher about meaning of vocubulry until they only kepp in the class
during learning. Here, the researcher formulated the research problem were: “Is
there any significant effect in achievement between the students who are taught
reading by using two stay two stray method from those who are taught reading
by using conventional method?.” The objective is to know whether there is
significant effect in achievement between the students who are taught reading
by using two stay two stray method from those who are taught reading by using
conventional method. This research was experimental research and used quasi
experimental design. The population of the research was the eighth grade
students of SMPN 13 Lhokseumawe. In this research there were two classes as
sample that was taken by using lottery method, those are: class VIII2
as the
experimental group consists of 25 students and VIII3
as the control group
consists of 24 students. The total number of the samples is 49 students. The
instrument used to collect the data was a test. The test are pre-test and post-test.
The research was gave pre-test before giving treatment and post-test after giving
treatment and the treatment was conducting in four meetings. The data was
analyzed by using t-test formula. The researcher found that the score of t-test
was 2,39, the score of t-table on significance 0.05 was 1,67. It means that t-test
was higher than t-table, the on criteria was 2,39 > 1,67. So, based criterion, the
researcher concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) of this research was
accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It means that using two stay
two stray as a method in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text was
effective.
