This thesis entited “Improving Students Ability In Speaking by Means Ends Analysis
Strategy (A Collaborative Classroom Action Research to the Second Year Student of
SMAN 1 Samudera)”. Besides, the strategy used by the teacher in class was monotonous,
the lack of vocabulary knowledge, grammar structure, and less literary of english. So
that,effect the students speaking ability. So, the researcher use Means Ends Analysis strategy
as solution to help improve students speaking ability and how is the class atmosphere when
Means Ends Analysis strategy implemented in teaching speaking. So, the purpose of the
research were to know how Means Ends Analysis strategy improved in speaking and to know
how the class activity when Means Ends Analysis strategy applied in teaching speaking. This
research was collaborative action research and the strategy which is cooperation researcher
and teacher in speaking teaching learning class. This research was conducted in SMAN 1
Samudera with two cycles by following the procedure of the research. To collect the data the
reseacher use some instruments such as observation and test. in cycle 1The students average
score of pre-test was 51,40 in first meeting then gave treatment and when to next second
meeting was increase to 65,04 in the post-test. In the cycle 2, the researcher gave treatment
before to the students and they score was average increased significantly, it as 82,13 it means
that the reasult had met the criteria of the success. The other findings were from observation
guide to the students activity. It shows that the students participation increase from 65,04 or
in level good in the first cycle to 82,13 or in very good level in second cycle. It means that the
implementation of Means Ends Analysis strategy in teaching speaking had successfully
improved students learning speaking.
