THE COMPARATIVE EFFECT OF USING COMPETITIVE LEARNING METHOD AND COOPERATIVE LEARNING METHOD IN LEARNING READING COMPREHENSION (A Descriptive Qualitative Research At Smp Negeri 2 Meurah Mulia)

This thesis entitled: “The Comparative Effect of Using Competitive Learning
Method and Cooperative Learning Method in Learning Reading
Comprehension ( Descriptive Qualitative )”. Reading is one of skill in learning
language which is closely related to other skills and effect the success in educational
process, therefore, in comprehending reading material, students have to use language
learning strategies. The problem the research were is there any significant differences
between competitive learning method and cooperative learning method. The design
applied in this research was descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this
research were the teacher and the students of SMP N 2 Meurah Mulia. The writer
observed one of English teacher and some students of SMP N 2 Meurah Mulia. Next,
the techniques of data collection were observation and interview. The researcher
analyzes the data by Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data display,
and data verification. The finding of this study showed that each students has their
best way in study, which called comparative and cooperative learning method. it
indicated that comparative effect of using competitive and cooperative learning
method in learning reading comprehension of students SMP N 2 Meurah Mulia was
successful.
