AN ANALYSIS OF EDUCATIONAL VALUES IN THE NOVEL MIMPI SEJUTA DOLAR” WRITTEN BY MERRY RIANA (A Library Research)

This thesis entitled “An Analysis of Educational Values in the Novel “Mimpi
Sejuta Dolar” written by Merry Riana. Education is not only a process of
transforming knowledge, but the spirit of getting an education also aims to create
passion for learning for a better future. Novels can also be used as educational
media. The research chose this title because it has an educator who has a great
passion for achieving success, so that they can change their lives in the future, and
the novel “Mimpi Sejuta Dolar” can be a means to convey values. Educational
value, because it was written with the intention of showing educational values.
The approach used in this research was descriptive qualitative approach and the
kind of this research was library research. The source of data in this research was
the novel entitled “Mimpi Sejuta Dolar: Merry Riana” as the primary source of
data and the books or journal discussed about educational values as secondary
source of data. The technique of collecting data was through reading the novel and
the technique of analyzing data was using inductive method which consist of three
steps namely data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The result
of this research showed that were some educational values contained in the novel
entitled “Mimpi Sejuta Dolar: Merry Riana”. Those educational values were
classified into religious education, and social education. The religious educational
values found in the novel entitled “Mimpi Sejuta Dolar: Merry Riana” were
resignation to the God‟s will, thank God or gratitude, and pray to God.
Meanwhile, the moral educational values found in the thrift, honest, discipline,
braveness, or courage, optimism, strong determination, never give up, respect, and
simplicity. Then, the social educational values found in the novel entitled “Mimpi
Sejuta Doalr: Merry Riana” were togetherness and teamwork.
