AN ANALYSIS OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE IN SAMI YUSUF‟S SONGS (Library Research)

This research is entitled “An Analysis of Figurative Language in Sami Yusuf‟s
songs”. Figurative language is language which uses to make creative in writing.
Figurative language is one of the important elements in writing because it can
create the imagination to the reader and listener which uses the beautiful language
and interesting words. The purpose of the research are (1) To find out the types of
figurative language found in Sami Yusuf‟s song lyrics (2) To find out the meaning
of figurative language found in Sami Yusuf‟s song lyrics. The researcher used
descriptive qualitative approach. The researcher focuses on library research. The
data were collected from Sami Yusuf‟s songs on Ecstasy album by documentation
technique. After analyzing the data, the researcher concludes into descriptive, the
table and pie chart form. The result of this research, the researcher found eleventh
types of figurative language in Sami Yusuf‟s songs lyric on Ecstasy album of
Grounded, Shadowless and Wanderer that are simile, metaphor, allusion,
hyperbole, personification, onomatopoeia, chiasmus, (alliteration, assonance,
consonance), paradox, antithesis, and synecdoche. The meaning of figurative
language in Sami Yusuf‟s song lyric is used to give different meaning in every
phrases/words, and it can illustrate the ideas, emotions, or objects through the
song lyric. In giving the meaning of words/phrases in own figurative language so
that it can create new ideas and beautiful language. The result, it can make the
song lyrics be more imaginative.
