This thesis was entitled “The Effectiveness of Using Creative Story Games in
Teaching Speaking Skill (A Quasi Experimental Research at the Eighth Grade
Students of MTsN 4 Aceh Utara).” Based on the research that had done by the
researcher in MTsN 4 Aceh Utara especially at the eighth grade, the students felt
that English is difficult. The students did not understand what the teacher said.
The students were too shy to ask and afraid to speak in front of the class. The
student felt lazy to learn. They lose their motivation because the teacher keep on
using the same game over and over again. From those observation, The researcher
conduct the problem. The problem of this research is “Is there any significant
effect in achievement between students who taught speaking by using creative
story game from those who taught speaking by using guessing game at eighth
grade of MTsN 4 Aceh Utara?” The purpose of the research is to find out whether
there is any significant effect in achievement between students who taught
speaking by using creative story game from those who taught speaking by using
guessing game at eighth grade of MTsN 4 Aceh Utara. The design of this research
was quasi experimental study with quantitative approach. The total population of
this research are 150 students. The samples of this research is 50 students. They
were class VIII-F as experimental group that consisted of 25 students and class
VIII-D as control group that consisted of 25 students. Based on the result and the
hypothesis authentication and by using t-test is 7.11, then based on the value in
significant level ⍺ = 0.05, degree of freedom (df) = 48, finding the ttable is 1.67. So,
ttest>ttable (7.11  1.67) 11,664>8955 . Meanwhile, as a criteria of hypothesis,
if ttest > ttable, Ho is rejected and Ha was accepted. The score was obtained from
result of calculating, it 7.11  1.67, the alternative hypothesis was accepted and
null hypothesis is rejected. In other words, the researcher hypothesis is accepted.
It means that teaching speaking by using creative story game is effective to
improve students’ speaking ability. So, creative story game is suggested to used in
