IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSIONABILITY THROUGH EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION STRATEGY (A Collaborative Classroom Action Research at the Eighth Grade Students of SMP 2 SyamtaliraAron)
XMLThe title of this research is “Improving the Students’ Reading Comprehension ability
through Explicit Instruction Strategy’’(A Collaborative Classroom Action Research
at the eighth grade of SMP 2 Syamtalira Aron)’’. One of problems in teaching reading
comprehension that the students had low motivation in reading the text because they did
not know the meaning of word in the text, and the teacher always used same strategy in
every meeting and sometime the strategy was not appropriate with the materials. So,
Explicit Instruction Strategy is a good strategy to improve students’ reading
comprehension ability. This strategy helps students to understand the text. The aims of
this research are to find out whether Explicit Instruction Strategy can improve the
students, reading comprehension, and to know the class atmosphere when the teacher
implements the Explicit Instruction Strategy. The study belongs to qualitative approach by
using collaborative classroom action research design in which the researcher and
collaborator worked together. The subject of this research was all students of class
VIII.1of SMP 2 Syamtalira Aron. This research was conducted in two cycles by following
the procedure of action research. It began by collecting the data, the researcher used some
instruments such as Test Sheet, and Observation Checklist. In the first cycles, there were
three meetings, as a result the students got 69 in the first cycles. Next the second cycle,
there were two meetings, as the result students got 77,5. It means that, teaching reading
comprehension through Explicit Instruction Strategy was successful and Explicit
Instruction Strategy can helps the students in learning reading comprehension.
