READING COMPREHENSION STRATEGIES USED BY STUDENTS OF SMAN 1 SAMUDERA

This research entitled “Reading Comprehension Strategies Used by
Students of SMAN 1 Samudera”. The students faced difficulty in answering the
question because they did not completely understand the material and they were
lack of vocabulary to translate the text. The students must have strategies that can
be used to understand the contents of the text. Based on explanation above, the
purposes of this research were to find out kinds of strategies used by the students
in learning reading comprehension in third year students of SMAN 1 Samudera
and to find out why they used those strategies in learning reading comprehension.
In research method, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research. In
conducting the research, the researcher collected data through interview. The
subjects of this research were six students at SMAN 1 Samudera. The technique in
analyzing data of this research was Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, which
consisted of data collection, data display and conclusion verification. The findings
of this research presented that the third year students of SMAN 1 Samudera did
some strategies in reading comprehension. The strategies are: Skimming, Rereading and inferring. These strategies could help themin reading comprehension.
It means that they could comprehend the text easily and rapidly. A good strategy
used by the students would encourage the students to learn and practice their
study.
