TEACHING VOCABULARY BY USING COLOR-CODED CO-OP CARDS METHOD (An Experimental Research at SMK Negeri 5 Lhokseumawe)

The thesis entitled “Teaching Vocabulary By Using Color-Coded Co- Op Cards Method (An Experimental Research at SMK Negeri 5
Lhokseumawe)”. This research was conducted because the researcher formerly
found in that the students’ vocabulary skill was still low. Elementary School
students are expected to master enough vocabulary to support their English skills
before they continue their study to the next level. When the students have known
enough vocabulary,it shows that teaching and learning process became more
understand then get the maximum result. However, the fact shows that many
students still difficult in understanding vocabulay. Therefore, the researcher used
color coded co-op cards method as the material in teaching that can make their
students more interest, motivation and anthusiastic in learning english vocabulary. In the learning vocabulary process, students usually have problems in absorbing
the new vocabulary and their meaning.The aim of this research was to know any
significant in vocabulary achievement between the students who were taught by
using color coded co-op card method from those who were taught by using
cooperative learning method. The design applied in this research was quantitative
research in type of quasi-experimental research. The population of the research
was the SMK Negeri 5 Lhokseumawe. Ninety five students were taken Randomly
(SRS) as the sample in this research. There were two classes as the sample, those
are the whole students of class X AKT and X TAV of SMK Negeri 5
Lhokseumawe. Class X AKT that consisted of 25 students chosen as experimental
group and class X TAV consisted of 25 students chosen as control group. The
sample of this research was selected by using simple random sampling technique
simple random sampling (SRS). The source of the data was the pre-test and posttest from experiment and control classes. Furthermore, the research applied the
whole color coded co-op card method in the research class. As the result, the
researcher found that the mean score of pre-test of experimental group was 44.36
and the mean score of pre-test of control group was 39.16. After the research gave
treatment to both of the classes, the mean score of post-test of experimental group
became 65.2 while the control group became 58.4. it means that the score was
higher after the researcher gave treatment than before treatment. Hypothesis
authentication found by using test-mann-withney= 9.22 test-mann-withney >
ttable, that is 9.22 > 2.423. So, H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. . It means
that Teaching Vocabulary By Using Color-Coded Co-Op Cards Method (An
Experimental Research at SMK Negeri 5 Lhokseumawe was effective.
