This thesis entitled“The Effectiveness of Word Walk Method in Teaching
English Vocabulary at Junior High School (A Quasi Experimental Research
at the Seventh Grade Student of SMPN 1 Nisam ”vocabulary is a basic
component which support skills such as speaking, reading, listening, and
writing.When someone is interested in learning foreign language they must master
vocabulary well, because in studying a language all aspects need to master enough
vocabulary. In fact, many students confused and lost their vocabulary because
many students improve vocabulary by memorizing without used in daily
activities. As a result this problem happened to the seventh grade students because
they could not recognize the word to get how the vocabulary is used in context
story. The problem of this research ”Is there any significant effect in achiement
between the students who are taught vocabulary using word walk method from
those who are taught by using conventional Method”. The purpose of this research
was to know significant effect in achiement between the students who are taught
vocabulary using word walk method from those who are taught by using
conventional Method. In this research the researcher took two classes as the
samples by using simple random sampling. The sample of this research were 60
students, 30 students in the class VIIA as experimental group and 30 students in
the class VIIB as control group. The instrument used to collect the data was test.
The researcher gave the students pre-test and after the four meetings the reseacher
gave post-test to both groups. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The
reseacher found that the score of t-test was 6,643while the score of t-table on
significance level 0,05 and df = 58 was 1, 671. It meant that t-test was higher than
t-table that is 6,643> 1,671. So, based on the criterion the reseacher concluded
that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) of this research was accepted and the null
hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It meant that using word walk method in teaching
English vocabulary at the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Nisam was effective.
