This thesis entitled”The Effetiveness of Predict, Locate, Add, Note (PLAN)
Strategy to Increase Students Reading Comprehension Ability ( A Quasi
Experimental Research at Tenth Grade Students of SMAN 2 Seruway). The
researcher conducted the research because the students at tenth grade of SMAN 2
Seruway were difficult to understand so that they could not answer the questions
of teacher and also felt bored in learning process reading comprehension
expecially Narrative Text. Therefore, the researcher thought that PLAN strategy
was one of the effective strategies to use in teaching Reading Comprehension
expecially Narrative Text, because PLAN strategy helped students to maximize
their potential for learning and it would make them enjoy, happy during teaching
learning. The researcher formulated the problem of the research “Does PLAN
strategy give significant effect to the students ability in reading comprehension?”
The porpose of this research was to investigate whether or not there is any
significant effect using PLAN strategy to the students’ ability in reading
comprehension. The researcher took two classes as sample; those were x2
as
experimental group that consists of 21 students and x
1
as control group that
consist 21 students. The sample was taken by sampling random lottery technique.
The researcher administered Pre-test to both groups. After that, in experimental
group, the researcher used PLAN strategy in teaching narrative text, while in
control group the researcher used conventional method. After giving treatment,
the researcher gave students Pos-test to both groups. The experimental group had
a better result than control group. The data was collected through Pre-test, Posttest score, then the researcher analyzed it by using statistical formula ttest. This was
proved by the result of tcount is 23,72. The score of ttable on significant 0,05 of the
degree of freedom df = 40, finding the ttable is 1,68385. It means that tcount was
higher than ttable. So, the tcount > ttable = 23,72 > 1,68385, the alternative hypothesis
(Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Therefore, the
researcher concIuded that using PLAN Strategy in Teaching Reading
Comprehension to tenth grade students of SMAN 2 Seruway was effective.
