The title of this thesis is “The Effectiveness of Anticipation Guide Strategy In
Teaching Reading Comprehension” (An Experimental Research to the Eighth
Grade Students of SMP Negeri 6 Lhokseumawe). Most students’ in the eighth
grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Lhokseumawe got problems and troubles in
comprehending the reading. In fact, they were difficult to understand English
word, phrase and sentences in English. They also were difficult to find the main
idea and accustomed to practice reading in daily life. In other words, the students’
ability was still low in reading comprehension. Here, the researcher formulated
the research problem was: “Is there any significant effect in achievement between
the students who are thought by using Anticipation Gude Strategy in Reading
Comprehension of from those who are taught by Conventional Method?.” The
objective is to know whether there is significant effect in achievement between
the students who are taught reading by using anticipation guide strategy from
those who are taught by conventional method. This research was experimental
research and used quasi experimental design. The population of the research was
the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Lhokseumawe. There are eight classes
on the average, so the total population is 200. In this research there were two
classes as sample that was taken by using simple random sampling method, those
are: Class as the experimental group consists of 25 students and as the
control group consists of 25 students. The total number of the samples is 50
students. The instrument esed to collect the data was a test. The test is pre-test and
pos-test. The research was gave pre-test before giving treatment and post-test after
giving treatment and the treatment was conducting in four meetings. The data was
analyzed by using t-test formula. The researcher found that the score of t-test was
3,07, the score of t-table on significance 0,05 was 1,66. It means that t-test was
higher than t-table, the on criteria was 3,07 > 1,66. So, based criterion, the
researcher concluded that the alternative hypothesis ( ) of this research was
accepted and the null hypothesis ( ) was rejected. It means that using
anticipation guide strategy in teaching reading comprehension of recount text was
effective.
