THE INFLUENCE OF SUGGESTOPEDIA METHOD IN TEACHING SPEAKING TO THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF MTsN LHOKSEUMAWE

This thesis entitled “The Influence of Suggestopedia Method in Teaching
Speaking to The Eighth Grade Students of MTsN Lhokseumawe”. Speaking
is an activity which is done by a person to communicate with others in order to
express ideas, feeling as well as opinions to achieve a particular goal. In fact, most
students in the eighth grade students in MTsN Lhokseumawe got problems and
troubles in speaking English. The students were still could not express their
English language, they also got lack of English vocabulary, and felt afraid of
making mistakes in using grammar in speaking. Then, the students were less
motivation and had no interest to develop their English speaking skill. Besides,
the teacher did not use various and interesting method in teaching learning
process. So in this research, the researcher used suggestopedia method in teaching
speaking. The aim of this research was to know whether suggestopedia method
significantly influence students’ ability in speaking. This research was
experimental research and used quasi experimental design. The population of the
research was all the Eighth Grade Students of MTsN Lhokseumawe. The
researcher took two classes as sample by using simple random sampling, those are
class VIII2
as experimental group and VIII3 as control group. The researcher gave
pre-test before giving treatment and post-test after giving treatment. The treatment
by using suggestopedia method only gave in experimental group. The treatment
was conducted in three meetings. The data collection technique used in this
research is test; pre-test and post test. The research instrument of this research is
test (oral test). The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The research found
that the score of t-test was 4,87 while the score of t-table on significance level
0,05% is 1,672. It means that t-test was higher than t-table that is 4,87 ˃ 1,672.
So, based on the criterion the researcher concluded that the alternative hypothesis
(Ha) of this research was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It
means that teaching speaking by using suggestopedia method was effective.
