TEACHING VOCABULARY BY USING GROUP INVESTIGATION STRATEGY (An Experimental Research at the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN2 Syamtalira Aron)

This thesis entitled “Teaching Vocabulary By Using Group Investigation Strategy
(An Experimental Research at the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 2 Syamtalira
Aron)”. Based on the fact that the researcher found, the students’ ability in
mastering vocabulary is low on SMPN 2 Syamtalira Aron. It has been caused by
the method in teaching learning process used by the teacher has not effective. The
purpose of this research was to know whether there is significant effect of
Teaching Vocabulary by Using Group Investigation Strategy. The population of
this study is the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 2 Syamtalira Aron. The
researcher took two classes of three clasess for the sample. In this research, the
sample used sample random sampling by using loutry technique, those are: class
VIII/1 that consist of 23 students as experimental group and class VIII/3 that
consist of 23 students as control group. The total number of the samples were 46
students. The researcher took place for four meetings, including pre-test,
treatment and post-test. In experimental group, the researcher used group
investigation strategy in teaching vocabulary, while in control group, the
researcher taught by using conventional method. The result of the research
showed that the students ability in control group was lower than experimental
group, this is proved after the researcher analyzed and counted the data by using t
test formula, score of t-test was 3,14 while the score of t-table with the
significance level at 0,05 and df = 44 was 1,68. It means that t-test was higher
than t-table that was 3,14 > 1,68. Based on the research, the researcher concluded
that the hypothesis of this research (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis
(Ho) was rejected. Therefore, using group investigation as a strategy in teaching
vocabulary was effective.
