This thesis entitled “The Effectiveness of Using Index Card Match Technique in
Teaching Reading Comprehension (A Quasi Experimental Research Eight Grade
of SMPN 1 Simpang Keuramat)”. While the observation done, the researcher
found some problem that most of teacher always asked students to repeat
regularly the reading text without giving the different ways to repeat it. In this
situation, usually they have low motivation to repeat the subject that they have
learned before. This way made the students feel bored and lost interest on the
subject which effected on students reading ability. The purpose of this research
was to know whether there is significant differences in achievement of reading
comprehension between the students who are taught by using index card match
from those who are taught by using conventional technique. This research was
experimental research and used quasi experimental design. The population of the
research was all of the eight grade students of SMPN 1 Simpang Keuramat, where
there were 5 classes. In this research there were two classes was choosen as
sample by using simple random sampling. The sample was divided into two
groups. The experimental group (VIII.1) consist of 22 students and control group
(VIII.2) consist of 22 students. The total number of the sample 44 students. The
instruments used to collect the data was test. The test were pre-test and post-test.
The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The researcher found that the score
of t-test was 1,381 while the score of t-table on significance level 0,05 and df= 42
was 1,68195. It mean that t-test was lower than t-table that is 1,381 < 1,68195. So,
based on criterion, the researcher concluded that alternative hypothesis (Ha) of
this research was rejected and the null hypothesis (Ho) was accepted. It mean that
there was no significant differences in achievement of reading comprehention
between who are taught by using index card match technique from those who are
taught by using conventional technique.
