This thesis entitled “The Effectiveness of Team Accelerated
Instructioninimproving Vocabulary Mastery (An Experimental Research on
the Seventh Grade of SMPN 1 SyamtaliraAron)”.Vocabulary becomes the
most important element that should be learnt by the students. Itis the key to
understand what students heard and read and to be able to communicate
successfully with other people. In fact, most of the seventh grade students of
SMPN 1 SyamtaliraAronfeel difficult in memorizing the vocabularies which had
been learned before. Besides, the teacher did not use various teaching methods in
teaching vocabulary. The teacher only asked the students to memorize the
vocabularies without engaging actively in teaching learning process. Therefore,
the researcher was interested in testing the use of team accelerated instruction in
teachingvocabulary.The purpose of this research was to know whether there is
significant difference in achievement between the students who are taught
vocabulary by using team accelerated instruction from those who are taught
vocabulary by using conventional method. In conducting the research, the
researcher used quantitative approach, and the kind of this research was quasi
experimental research. This research was conducted atSMPN 1 SyamtaliraAron.
The population of this research was all students ofthe seventh grade students of
SMPN 1 SyamtaliraAron. The samples of this research consisted of two classes
that was taken using simple random sampling technique, those are: class VII1
that
consisted of 25 students was chosen as experimental group and class VII2
that
consisted of 25 students was chosen as control group.The total number of the
samples were50 students. The instrument used to collect the data was test. The
test were pre-test and post-test. The treatment was conducted inthreemeetings.The
data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The result of the research showed that
the score of t-test was 3.70 while the score of t-table with the significance level at
0.05 and df=48was 1.67. It meant that t-test was higher than t-table that was 3.70>
1.67. Based on criteria of hypothesis, the researcher concluded that the alternative
hypothesis (Ha) of this research was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was
rejected. It meant there is significant difference in achievement between the
students who are taught vocabulary by using team accelerated instruction from
those who are taught vocabulary by using conventional method.
