THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING PICTURE-CUE CARDS IN TEACHING WRITING SKILL (The Eight Grade of MTsN 7 Aceh Utara)
XMLThis thesis is entitled “The Effectiveness of Using Picture Cue Card in
Teaching Writing Skill” (The Eight Grade of MTsN 7 Aceh Utara).” These
research was based on the gap between the curriculum expectation and the fact
related to English writing in Junior High School grade. Where the students faced
some difficulties in gathering the ideas to be written. The problem of this research
is “ is there any significant effect in achievment between students who are taught
writing skill by using picture cue card from those who are taught by using
convetional method ?”. The purpose of this research is to know whether there is
any significant effect in achievement between students who are taught writing
skill by using picture cue card from those who are taught by using convetional
method. This research was quantitative research in type of quasi experimental
research. The samples determined by using simple random sampling technique
and chosen by using lottery. There were class VIII/A as experimental group that
consisted of 19 students and class VIII/B as control group that consisted of 19
students. The research was conducted in four meetings. The objects were thirty
eight students of eight grade class at MTsN 7 Aceh Utara. Furthermore, the
researcher used Picture Cue Card in Teching Writing Skill. As the result the
researcher found that the mean score of pre-test of experimental group was
59,7and the mean score of pre-test of control group was 56.7. After the researcher
gave treatment to both of the classes, the means score of post-test of experimental
group became 69,2 while control group became 61,8. It means that the score was
higher after the resrarcher gave treatment than before treatment. Based on the
result and the hypothesis authentication and by using t-test in significant level α =
0,05, it was obtained that tscore > ttable, it was 2.51. Meanwhile, from the list of
distribution value , with df = 36, because the data not in the table, the
researcher used interpolation approach and obtained , = 0.886. It showed
that

=3.225 > 0.886. The result was Ha was accepted while Ho was
rejected. The researcher conclude that using picture cue card in teaching writing
skill is effective.
