THE POLITENESS AND IMPOLITENESS MAXIM LANGUAGE USED IN HITAM PUTIH TALKSHOW PROGRAM ON TRANS7 CHANNEL (A Descriptive Qualitative Research)

This thesis entitled “The Politeness and Impoliteness Maxim Language Used
in Hitam Putih Talk Show Program on Trans7”. The writer took this title
because the writer got interesting word by using a principle politeness, and the
writer searched that principle politeness in Hitam Putih talkshow on Trans7
program to find polite and impolite word in the conversation. The objectives
of the study are to find out the kinds of principle politeness and impoliteness
maxim occurring in the talkshow. This research was conducted by qualitative
content analysis method. The d ata were obtained from the downloaded videos
and then were transcribed. The datum was about a child who did not have a
hands and legs, but he had a good motivation and getting a best inspiration
from Hitam Putih talkshow which was presented by Daddy Cobuzier and
Okky Lukman. The transcriptions were analyzed by applying qualitative
method. The findings showed that all kinds of principle politeness, such as:
tact maxim, generosity maxim, approbation maxim, modesty maxim,
agreement maxim and sympathy maxim, occurred in conversation. Principle
politeness occurring in all topics is dominantly politeness and impoliteness
agreement maxim. They spoke in impolite utterance where it did not mean
they hurt speaker/listener, but impolite’s meaning here is when they did not
follow the rule of principle politeness. It is suggested that the rules of principle
politeness are should be included in University, especially in Language
Department in order to make them speak politely and it is also suggested to
other researchers applied Linguistics who are taking pragmatics or conducting
research to find more the reasons and more subject in different topic or
different culture in obedience and violation in principle politeness. It is
expected that obedience or violation in principle politeness will not be a
barrier conversation since listeners are still able to understand what speakers
mean by other aspects in Pragmatics to catch the meaning such as
presupposition, reference and speech act.
