This thesis entitled “The Using of Dictogloss Technique In Teaching Listening
Skill”. Many students got difficulty in English listening. They rarely used English
in their life to make communication because they still had less motivation when
they were studying English in the classroom. So, they were not able to get the
meaning of the words. The purpose of this research is to know whether there was
significance difference in achievement between the students who are taught
listening skill by using dictogloss technique from those who are taught listening
by using conventional method.Dictogloss is a classroom dictation activity where
learners listen to a passage, note down key words and then work together to create
a reconstructed version of the text. In this research, the sample was taken by using
random sampling technique. The researcher took two classes as thesamples; those
were class XI-MIPA3 and XI-MIPA5. The sample of this research were 40
students, 20 students in the class XI-MIPA3 as experimental group and 20
students in the class XI-MIPA 5 as control group. In the experimental group, the
researcher used Dictogloss technique in teaching listening skill, meanwhile in the
control group, did not useDictogloss technique in teaching listening skill. Before
teaching learning process in first meeting the researcher gave pre-test, and after
teaching learning process for fifth meetings the researcher gave post-test to the
students. To know the hypothesis was accepted or not, the researcher needed to
found out the t-test and t-table. Based on the result that had counted, the t-test is
2.48. Then based on the value in level significant 0,05 of degree of freedom df =
38, finding the t-table is 1.68. So, the t-test >t-table = 2.48 > 1,68. Meanwhile, as
criteria of hypothesis, if t-count> t-table, hence Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted.
The score was obtained from result of calculating, 2.48 > 1,68, the alternative
hypothesis is accepted and null hypothesis is rejected. In other words, the
researcher hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is any effectiveness of using
Dictogloss Technique in teaching listening skill at SMAN 1 Dewantara.
