This thesis entitled “The Influence of Using Peer Assisted Learning
Strategy in Teaching Reading Comprehension ( A Quasi Experimetal
Research at the Eleventh Students of SMKN 3 Lhokseumawe)”. Reading
comprehension is important to students to understand the ideas and the
relationships between ideas conveyed in text. The problem of this research ”Is
there any effectiveness of using Peer Assisted Learning Strategy (PALS) in
teaching reading comprehension”. Therefore the research only focused on
narrative text. The purpose of this research was to know whether there is any
effectiveness of using Peer Assisted Learning Strategy in teaching reading
comprehension. In this research the researcher took two classes as the
samples by using simple random sampling. The samples of this research were
60 students, 30 students in the class XI APK 1 as experimental group and 30
students in the class XI APK 2 as control group. The instrument used to
collect the data was test. The researcher gave the students pre-test and after
the three meetings the reseacher gave post-test to both groups. The data were
analyzed by using t-test formula. The reseacher found that the score of t-test
was 2,91 while the score of t-table on significance level 0,05 and df = 58 was
1, 6715. It meant that t-test was higher than t-table that was 2,91 > 1,6715.
So, based on the criterion the reseacher concluded that the alternative
hypothesis (Ha) of this research was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0)
was rejected. It meant that using Peer Assisted Learning Strategy in teaching
reading comprehension at the eleventh students of SMKN 3 Lhokseumawe
was effective.
