AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN USING QUANTIFIER ( A Case Study at SMP N 3 Syamtalira Aron )
XMLThis thesis is entitled “An Analysis of Students’ Difficulties in Using Quantifier” ( A
Case Study at SMPN 3 Syamtalira Aron). This research was done because the
students’ got problems and trouble in mastering quantifier. They were often confused in
putting and choosing quantifier in the sentences as what the researcher found in the field
of research in the previous year. The research is aimed at analyzing more about students
difficulties in using quantifier especially in countable and uncountable noun. the
students of this class had low ability in mastering it. The purposes of this research to
know kinds of difficulties faced by students in constructing countable and uncountable
noun and to know the reason of students’ difficulties in using quantifier. The design
applied in this research was qualitative data approach in type of case study. Meanwhile,
the techniques of data collection were observation, documentation, and interview. The
subjects in this research were nine students that included into three categories, three
students in high level, three students in middle level, and three students in low level.
The technique of analyzing data of this research consisted of data reduction, data
display and conclusion/verification which was found in Miles and Huberman’s model.
The difficulties were causes some students forget in material and weak in English
grammar. The students also did not understand comprehend about the explanation given
by teacher orally and the teacher did not give example clearly . The solution of the
causes found in the research wre such as repetition of the material and memorizing the
vocabularies, and the teacher also improve their teaching methods so that the students
easily undestand the material provided.
