AN ERROR ANALYSIS OF PRONOUNCING PLOSSIVE SOUNDS (A Case Study at Second Year Students of SMPN 2 Syamtalira Aron)

This thesis entitled ’’An Error Analysis of Students in Pronouncing Plossive
Sounds’’. The researcher found many English learners in SMPN Syamtalira Aron,
who could not pronounce words well, because they faced many difficulties in
pronouncing plossive sounds. The problems of the research were, what kind of
errors made by students in pronouncing English plossive sounds, and what factors
that cause the students errors in pronouncing English plossive sounds. The
purpose of this research were to find out the kind of error made by students and to
find out the factors that made by students in pronouncing plossive sound. Subject
of this research was seconds year students of SMPN 2 Syamtalira Aron. The
design applied in this research was qualitative approch. In this research the
researcher used test and interview to collecting data. Based on interview it could
be found that: 1) the students did not pronounce well English plossive sound, and
they are also confused in pronouncing plossive sound. 2) the students made error
in pronouncing plossive sound because different phonologycal system between
Indonesian and English. The students were still lazy to speak English and they
were less attention at the sounds of English words particularly English plossive
sound. To help the students improve this pronounciation proficiently, the
researcher suggested that they should be given a lot of drill and practices related
to the pronounciation.
