THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING GUESSING GAME IN TEACHING VOCABULARY (An Quasi Experimental Research on the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 1 Syamtalira Bayu)
XMLThe title of this thesis is “The Effectiveness of Using Guessing Game in
Teaching Vocabulary (An Quasi Experimental Research on the Eighth Grade
Students of SMPN 1 Syamtalira Bayu)”. Most of the students are difficult in
memorizing the vocabularies which has been learn before the students did not know
the vocabularies that often use in their daily life. The problem of this research is “does guessing game significantly affect the students’ vocabulary mastery?”. The
purpose of the research is to know whether guessing game significantly affect the
students’ ability in vocabulary mastery. The population of this research was all of the
classes from the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Syamtalira Bayu. The researcher
took two classes as the sample, those are class VIII2 as experimental group and VIII5
as control group. The total number of the sample was 50 students. The data was
collected by given test, there are pre-test and post-test and the analyzed with used
statistical formula t-test the hypothesis. But the treatment by using guessing game
only gave in experimental group. The score of experimental was higher than control
group. The students score was analyzed by using t-test formula. Based on the
research result, it was obtained that ttest > ttable , 4,0506 > 1,6788. So, ttest score was
higher than the critical value of table, it means that the research hyphothesis (Ha) was
accepted, while null hyphothesis (Ho) was rejected. As a result the researcher
concluded that using Guessing Game in teaching vocabulary was effective.
