The title of this research “The Effectiveness of Using Shadowing Technique in
Teaching Listening Comprehension”. the reseacher found the case in lstening
comprehension at junior students get the difficult in learning English lesson
especially listening, the students hard to find the information from the speaker by
native speaker’s voice because the teachers still using their own voice to teach
listening comprehension. So, the teacher must make conscientious decision about
selecting teaching strategy for specific purposes. To develop listening skill the
teacher needs a technique that will make students enjoy and easy to understand
listening comprehension. The purpose of this research is to find out the
effectiveness of using Shadowing Technique in teaching listening comprehension
at seventh grade students of MTsN 1 Kota Lhokseumawe. This research is a
quantitative research using experimental method. The population of this research
was the seventh grade students of MTsN 1 Kota Lhokseumawe. The research
methodology was conducted in two groups; experimental group (VII1
) and control
group (VII2
). The data were collected by using test. The test was in the form of
multiple choice that consist of 15 items. Each items was scored 6.7, so the total
score was 100. The result of research showed that the pre-test average of
experimental group was 35.3 and control group was 33.94, while the post-test
average of experimental group was 70.59 and control group was 34.81. The
obtained t-score was 14.84, where as the t-table was 1,67 for alpha () 5%. The t- score was higher than t-table (14.84 > 1,67). It meant that Ha was accepted while
Ho was rejected. So, teaching listening comprehension by using Shadowing
Technique was effective in improving students’ listening comprehension at
seventh grade students of MTsN 1 Kota Lhokseumawe
