THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING VISUAL DICTIONARY IN TEACHING VOCABULARY
XMLThis thesis entitled“The Effectiveness of Using Visual Dictionary in Teaching
Vocabulary (A Quasi Experimental Research at the Seventh Grade Students of
MTsN Nibong)”.Vocabulary is one of the most important elements that should be
mastered by the language learners.It plays an important role in helping the
language learners master the language they are learning. In fact, most of the
seventh grade students were difficult in memorizing the vocabularies had been
learned. They did not know the English vocabularies often used in their daily life;
Besides, the teacher did not use various teaching media in teaching and learning
process so that the students becoming bored and did not concern to learn.
Therefor, problem of this research “Isthere any significant differences in
achievement between the students who are taught vocabularyby using visual
dictionaryfrom those who are taught by using conventional method”.The purpose
of this research was to know whether there is any significant differences in
achievement between the students who are taught vocabulary by using visual
dictionaryfrom those who are taught by using conventional method. This research
was experimental research and used quasi experimental design. The population of
the research was all of the seventh grade students of MTsN Nibong that were 65
students. In this research, the samples were determined byusing simple random
sampling technique and chosen by using lottery. Class VII2
that consist of 22
students was chosen as experimental group and class VII3
consist of 22 students
was chosen as control group. The total number of the samples was44 students.
The instrument used to collect the data was test. The test were pre-test and posttest.The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The researcher found that the
score of t-test was 2.51, while the score of t-table on significance level 0.05 and
df=42 was 1.68. It meant that t-test was higher than t-table that is 2.51 > 1.68. So,
based on the criterion, the researcher concluded that the alternative hypothesis
(Ha) of this research was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected.
