AN ANALYSIS OF LEXICAL BORROWING USED IN 5 CM NOVEL (A Library Research)

Analyzing some languages is beneficial to understand how languages work. The
analysis can also be done in term of words originfrom one language to another
language to know how they are formed. This study aims at investigatingEnglish
lexical borrowings that have penetrated the lexicon of Indonesian language at5 cm
novel. This study applies a descriptive qualitative method where it presents
description of English borrowed words based on their types as well as their
examples. The data of types of English lexical borrowing were taken from
secondary sources, i.e5 cm novel.The results of data analysis showed that all types
of lexical borrowing are exist in this novel, they are loanword, loanblend, and
loanshift. The highest numbers of English lexical borrowings belong to
loanwordswhich have 334 data, whilstloanblendshave35 data,andloanshiftshave
the lowest number which is4 data. Likewise, loandword showed that the original
form of English words is used in Indonesian language, loanblend showed that
English part and Indonesian part were combined, and loanshift showed that
English words in the novel experienced in extending meaning. Therefore, it can be
concluded that English and Indonesian language come in contact. Conducting
lexical borrowing studyhelps us to know some origin of word which may undergo
changing or maintaining the form of donor language.
