This thesis entitled by “The Role of The Teacher in Giving External
Motivation to Students’ in speaking performace ( Descriptive Qualitative
Research at MTsS Simpang mulieng)” at the students’ seventh grade.
Based on Competence Based Curiculum speaking is one of the four basic
competences that the students should gain well. It has an important role in
communication. In carrying out speaking, students faced some difficulties
one of them is about language its self. In fact, most of students get
difficulties to speak even though they have a lot of vocabularies and have
written them well. The problems are the students are affraid of making
mistakes. Teachers often worry about the presence of students who
assessed intelligent but have achievement mediocrity. The student in
learning looks tired and lethargic, very few use them to solve the issues
raised in class, let alone actively involved in the learning process.
The aim this research is to find out the role of teacher in giving external
motivation in speaking class. The data were collected through observation
and and interview. The data in this research is qualitative research that was
a research used describe phenomena event social activity attitude and
perception by using purposive sampling. Object this resarch is the teacher
and students in the seventh grade of MTsS Simpang Mulieng. The
researcher observer role of the teacher in speaking activity. The result of
observation and interview was analyzed into three step, data reduction,
data display, and verification . The finding this reseach there are some role
of the teacher in giving external motivation in speaking performance,
namely: (1) teacher as prompter, (2) teacher as participant, (3) teacher as
fedback provider, (4) teacher as organizer, (5) teacher as motivator,(6)
teacher as Evaluator . Based on this research, the researcher concloude
that the role of teacher most influential in determining the tudents in
speaking performace.
