THE DIFFICULTIES FACED BY STUDENTS IN ACHIEVING OF MINIMUM COMPLETENESS CRITERIA (A Case Study at SMP Negeri 2 Samudera )
XMLThis thesis entitled “The Difficulties Faced by the Students in Achieving of Minimum
Completeness Criteria (A Case Study at SMP Negeri 2 Samudera)”. English is an
important subject in school. As an International language, English includes four skill to
be learned by students from elementary school to university. In teaching learning
process, there are many students get the difficulties for grammar, speaking, reading,
writing and vocabulary in achieving the Minimum Completeness Criteria. The problem of
the research that what is the difficulties faced by the students in achieving of minimum
completeness criteria? The purpose of the research is to know the difficulties faced by
the students in achieving of minimum completeness criteria. The method in this
research, the design applied is descriptive qualitative approach. To get the data the
writer used some techniques, they were documentation and Interview. The result of the
research during teaching and learning process there were 13 students got the
difficulties in learning English until they got the score under 75. The scores indicated that
the students did not reach the criteria of success or Minimum Completeness Criteria. The teacher divided them to three levels. They were low ability, middle ability and high
ability. They could not read English text well. On other hand, they get the difficulties in
writing and structure. In teaching English the teacher found some problems faced by
students in teaching learning process. First, some students were very difficult in
mastering every materials given by the teacher. Second, some students has difficulties
to respond something about the lesson delivered by teacher in English. Third, they were
late to comprehend something in English, and to the teacher’s instruction. Some
students are difficult to express the words in English. Most of them, cannot talk much in
English, but they can use short sentences and simple vocabulary. Related to problems in
grammatical structure, students are difficult to understand grammar. They are not able
to understand the rules of the grammar. They do not have a lot of knowledge about
grammar, in solving the students’ difficulties in achieving the Minimum Completeness
Criteria. The teacher applied many types of strategies, methods or models of learning,
parts of them are cooperative learning type of STAD, Gallery walk for teaching speaking,
Game for teaching vocabulary and using type recorder for teaching listening. The
teacher also applied other learning strategies to help the students meet the criteria of
success.
