THE COMPARISON OF STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION ABILITY IN COMPREHENDING NARRATIVE TEXT (A Comparative Study at the Tenth Grade Students of MAN 1 Lhokseumawe and MAN 2 Aceh Utara)

ABSTRACT
This thesis is entitled “The Comparison of Students’ Reading Comprehension
Ability in Comprehending Narrative Text (A Comparative Study Between MAN 1
Lhokseumawe and MAN 2 Aceh Utara). Most of the tenth grade students of MAN
1 Lhokseumawe and MAN 2 Aceh Utara are difficult to comprehend the text,
especially narrative text. The students do not feel interested in learning reading
comprehension. Both schools apply different media in teaching reading
comprehension, MAN 1 Lhokseumawe uses audio and visual media while MAN 2
Aceh Utara only uses audio media. The purpose of this research is to know if
there is significant difference between students of MAN 1 Lhokseumawe and
students of MAN 2 Aceh Utara in reading comprehension ability. The design
applied in this research is comparative quantitative research. The sample of this
research was 60 students of tenth grade students of MAN 1 Lhokseumawe and
MAN 2 Aceh Utara. They were 30 students of MAN 1 Lhokseumawe and 30
students of MAN 2 Aceh Utara. In this research, the samples were determined by
using stratified random sampling technique. Stratified random sampling is a
concept or characteristic that is used to subdivide the population into smaller
groups. The researcher used test as data collection technique in this research.
There are 25 questions of multiple choice test. The researcher analyzed the data
by using t-test formula. The result of t-test score analyzed and interpreted to the ttable. Based on the result and the hypothesis authentification, it was obtained that
t-score > t-table, it was 9,32 > 2,001). As the result, the alternative hypothesis (ha)
is accepted and null hypothesis (ho) is rejected. In another word, there is
significant different between students of MAN 1 Lhokseumawe and students of
MAN 2 Aceh Utara in reading comprehension ability. According to the result of
this research, students of MAN 1 Lhokseumawe have a better comprehension in
comprehending narrative text than students of MAN 2 Aceh Utara.
