This thesis entitled “The Implementation of Rotating Trio Exchange Strategy in
Teaching Simple Present Tense (A Quasi Experimental Research on the Seventh
Grade Students of MTsN Kuta Makmur)”. In every language, grammar is one of
the language competences that should be mastered by its learners. The students
who mastered grammar will know about system of language, so that they will be
able to combine and build words into meaningful sentence. In fact, most of the
seventh grade students got any difficulties in mastering grammar especially in
constructing simple present tense. They did not know how to form the correct
simple present tense based on its formula, and almost all of the students
constructed wrong sentences. Here, the most common wrongness was on the
sentence with the third singular person. The purpose of this research was to know
whether there is any significant effect between students who are taught simple
present tense by using rotating trio exchange from those who are taught by using
lecturing method. This research was experimental research and used quasi
experimental design. The population of the research was all of the seventh grade
students of MTsN Kuta Makmur that were 64 students. In this research, the
samples were determined by using simple random sampling technique and chosen
by using lottery. The researcher wrote the name of each class on each paper and
then took two papers to be used as the sample. The first paper taken was used as
experimental class and the second paper taken was used as control class. Class
VII2
that consist of 21 students was chosen as experimental group and class VII1
consist of 21 students was chosen as control group. The total number of the
samples was 42 students. The instrument used to collect the data was test. The test
were pre-test and post-test. The treatment was conducted in three meetings. The
data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The researcher found that the score of
t-test was 2.32, while the score of t-table on significance level 0.05 and df=40
was 1.68. It meant that t-test was higher than t-table that is 2.32 > 1.68. So, based
on the criterion, the researcher concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) of
this research was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected.
