THE FACTORS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE ANXIETY AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN ENGLISH SPEAKING AT THE EIGHT GRADE OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

This thesis entitle “The Factors of English Language Anxiety as a Foreign
Language in English Speaking at the Eight Grade of Junior High School” (A
Case Study at MTsS Misbahul Ulum). The researcher found that many students
were reluctance to speak English in foreign language class and there were some
factors inhibited students in learning speaking. The problem of the research are
“what factors make the Eight grade students of junior high school feel anxiety in
speaking English and how does the English language anxiety influence the
students learning process in English speaking class.” The purpose of this research
was to find out factors the eight grade students of junior high school feel anxiety
in speaking English and to investigate the English language anxiety influence the
students learning process in English speaking class. The design applied in this
research was qualitative approach in type of case study. To collect the data, the
researcher used three techniques of collecting data; there were observation,
questionnaire, and interview. The techniques of analyzing data of this research
were data condensation, data display, and conclusion which were found in Miles,
Huberman, and Saldana model. The findings of this research were there the
students felt anxiety in English speaking class because of communication
apprehensions, test anxiety, fear of negative evaluation. Beside, the time need for
practicing speaking was very limited, the students got opportunity to practice their
speaking skill only in the classroom, and they were rare to practice it outside the
classroom.
