AN ANALYSIS ON STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN UNDERSTANDING OBJECT AND COMPLEMENT IN SENTENCE (A Case Study at the Eighth Grade Students’ of SMPN 13 Lhokseumawe)

This thesis entitled “An Analysis on Students Difficulties in
Understanding Object and Complement in Sentence” (A Case Study
at Eight Grade Students of SMPN 13 Lhokseumawe)”. This research
was conducted because the research found that the students had some
problems in understanding a sentence structure especially in knowing
which one object and complement. In English grammar, object and
complement was one of the functional of grammatical. A sentence did not
complete without object and complement. The problem of this research
that what kinds of students difficulties and the factor that faced by students
in understanding object and complement. The purpose of this research was
to know kinds of students difficulties and to know the factors that faced by
students in understanding object and complement. The design applies in
this research is qualitative approach and the type is case study. In
collecting data in this research, the researcher collected the data by using
documentation and interview. The subject of this research was one the
English teacher and nine of the eight grade students of SMPN 13
Lhokseumawe, three students were in high level, three students were in
midle level, and three students were in low level. The technique of
analysis the data in this research is using triangulation technique there are
data reduction, data display, and conclusion/ verification. The result of this
research are the students have some kinds of difficulties such as difficult
in mismatch between form and function, spelling word, the meaning,
using plural noun, and interference from the learner’s own language. The
factors faced by students in understanding object and complement are
internal and external factor.
