THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING COOPERATIVE LEARNING TYPE CO-OP CO-OP METHOD IN TEACHING GRAMMAR (An Experimental Research at eight grade Students of SMPN 1 Syamtalira Aron)

The title of this thesis is “The Effectiveness of Using Cooperative Learning Type
Co-op Co-op Method in Teaching Grammar (An Experimental Research at eight
grade students of SMPN 1 Syamtalira Aron). Co-op Co-op is one of the
cooperative learning methods. It allows the students to work together in small
group to advance their understanding and provides them with the opportunity to
share the understanding with their peers. The purpose of the research is to know
whether there are any significant differences in achievement between the students
who are taught grammar by using cooperative learning type co-op co-op method
from those who are taught by using traditional method. The design applied in this
research was quantitative reseach in type of quasi experimental research. The
population of this research was eight grade students of SMPN 1 Syamtalira Aron.
This research took two classes randomly as the samples. Those were VIII/5 as the
experimental class and VIII/4 as the control class. Each of class had 25 students.
The source of the data was pre-test and post-test from experiment and control
class. Multiple choice test was used to collect the data. The result of the study
showed that students in experimental class who were taught using Co-op Co-op
method had better achievement than students in control class who were taught
without Co-op Co-op method. The average (mean) score of pre-test of the
experimental class was 56,64 and post-test was 74,56. The average (mean) score
of pre-test of the control class was 54,72 and post-test was 65,12. The pre-test and
