This thesis entitle “The Effectiveness of Using Wallflowers Game in Teaching
Speaking”. (An Experimental Research at The Eight Grade Students of SMP
Negeri 1 Syamtalira Aron). Speaking is one of the four language skills (reading,
writing, listening, and speaking). It is the means through which learners can
communicate with others to achieve certain goals or to express their opinions,
intentions, hopes and view points. Here the researcher formulated the research
problems were: Is there any significant effect in achievement between the students
who are taught by using Wallflowers Game in teaching speaking from those who
are taught by using conventional method. The purposes of this research were: To
know whether there is any significant effect in achievement between the students
who are taught by using Wallflowers Game in teaching speaking of from those
who are taught by using conventional method. So, that the researcher took two
classes for the sample. To determine the experimental group and control group,
the researcher used simlpe random sampling. As a result, class VIII/A as control
group and VIII/B as experimental group. The sample of this research is 64
students, 32 students in control group and 32 students in experimental group.
Then the researcher administered pre-test to both the classes. In experimental
group, the reseacher applied Wallflowers Game, but in control group was taught
by using conventional method. After giving treatment, the researcher gave the
students post-test to both groups. In this research, the experimental group had a
better result than control group. Based on the researcher result and hypothesis
authentication found by using t-test in significant level 5% orα =0,05 it was
obtained that ttest > ttable, that is 1,68> 1,671 and df = 62. From the distribution t
obtained t(0,95)(62) = 1,671. The result Ho was rejected while Ha was accepted. So
using Wallflowers Game in teaching speaking at SMP N 1 Syamtalira Aron was
effective.
